Collective Impact

Kawainui stewardship academy

A collaboration between local schools, businesses and non-profit organizations, the Kawainui Stewardship Academy creates pathways for young people to access work opportunities that provide cross-campus engagement, build intra-community relationships, and result in the completion of critical community work. Through KSA, students from schools around Ko’olaupoko can receive training for careers in conservation, community organizing, and ‘āina work, becoming certified stewards of Kawainui.

Wild Communities Foundation

Originally created by LJA students and faculty, The Wild Communities Foundation provides community members an opportunity to unplug and reconnect with their inner-wild-child in the wild jungles of Hawai’i and the wide open spaces of Montana. Wild Kids hopes to impart a lifelong conservation ethic and profound appreciation for the preservation of wilderness areas on this planet because open space, dark nights and quiet moments are necessary to our survival as human beings. Common Ground Summit

Every year, the Wild Kids Stewardship Council hosts a student-led conference centered around global issues, activism, and environmental stewardship. For one weekend, we camp under the stars on campus with a diverse group of individuals, sharing a love for our planet and a commitment to positive change. The goal of every Wild Kids conference is to create a transferable framework of knowledge and a lasting network of change-makers. This years theme was Fostering Community Through Environmental Stewardship.
