CHORUS
The purpose of Chorus is to expose the novice singer to the exciting world of singing in an ensemble. As an IB MYP course, chorus emphasizes both the process of making music and the connections between different genres and other subjects through a repertoire of music from different time periods of history as well as other cultures. Through this unique form of human expression, students will:
Experience and develop curiosity, interest and enjoyment in their own creativity and that of others.
Explore through the process of vocal expressive art.
Acquire and develop skills needed for the creation of vocal performing art.
Develop and use the language, concepts, and principles of music and vocal performing art.
Communicate their thoughts and ideas through vocal expressive art.
Reflect on, appreciate and evaluate their work and the work of others.
Develop receptiveness to expressive art forms across time, place and cultures, and perceive the significance of these art forms as an integral part of life.

Additional Considerations: DP Music Students are required to take the Chorus Elective. Other students in MYP Music are welcome to join, but are not required to sign-up. Student who wish to perform in the Spring Concert MUST sign up for Chorus.
Debate Elective
Participate in a series of workshops to build your skills and experience with civil discourse, debate and using logic in arguments.

French Language Acquisition Support
This option is primarily for DP students who need IA support. However, MYP students may also sign-up if they have cleared it with Madame Pualoa.

Independent art
The course is designed for students who wish to pursue a greater understanding of the arts and improve on their technical skills. A minimum of 2 works of art will be required each quarter for completion of this class. Students will have freedom to choose what materials and subject matter they work with for each project. Project proposals, Final studio projects and Artist Statements for all projects are necessary to receive credit. Teacher support will be provided when needed. Studio time is to be used effectively to develop and complete studio projects. There are no prerequisites however enrollment is based on space availability.

Theater for Change
Our lives are simply stories. If we amplify a story, we give value to a life. Learn how theater can help disenfranchised populations through intentional storytelling and how acting can change the world! This Impact Elective does not require previous acting or theater experience. This is a chance to make a difference and hold space for those in our community who most need their stories told!

Wild kids academy
Become active stewards of your community! The Wild Kids Academy includes a variety of Impact Projects that will enable students to explore their own passion, develop their changemaking capacity, and hone their self-management and communication skills.
Those students who are part of the Wild Kids Academy will learn about and complete projects during B-Block and/or C-Block.
Projects Include (but are not limited to):
Forest Restoration: Help restore native species to the forest adjacent to campus
Happiness Hut: Student Run Coffee Shop, Composting System, Dishwashing Station, and Waste Audit
Kahana’iki (across the street at Kawainui Marsh): Native Plant Restoration, Growing food for the Community
Nā Pōhaku (down the street at Kawainui Marsh): Restoration of Native Fishpond
Interning with Healthy Climate Communities at Hamakua Marsh (Wednesday during early release)
Plastic Free Mural creation
Keiki Team: Take Lower School students to the forest (bringing younger students into the forest)
Activism Team: working with legislators on climate change initiatives
Plastic Makerspace: upcycle plastic using extruders and 3D printers
Bring The Light: Random acts of kindness and focused projects to support our community members through the pandemic
Photography Team: hone essential camera and photo editing skills while documenting the work being done in our other projects
Helping with Homeless community in Waimanalo: build community garden

Work Based Learning Opportunities
Operations Intern: Rotate between the Business Office, Admissions, Facilities and Advancement, learning more about careers in each department and developing your professional skills and resume!
Tech Team Interns: Support our Tech Department and, in the process, learn invaluable workplace skills.
Impact Program Field Interns: Help lead an Impact Project in our community. You will be paired with an Impact Mentor within the Ko’olau Impact Collective team and help guide other students in completing meaningful work in the community.
Dean of Experiential Education Office Assistant: Support the Dean of Experiential Education in managing the various administrative tasks associated with our Impact Programs, including Impact Electives, Clubs, Huis and Academies, and I-Term.
Peer Tutor: Support the academic success of fellow students. Peer tutors will work in the tutoring center and be paired based on subject and age preference.
