BIG ISLAND BACKPACKING

Traverse Lava Fields, camp on remote beaches, and build resilience.

Help out on a working farm on the Hamakua Coast, support native ecosystem restoration, visit Hakalau National Wildlife Refuge to learn how climate change is affecting the native birds of Big Island, and backpack through the unique landscapes of the Kaʻu Desert to camp on remote beaches. What better place to figure out our role in climate action than the most rugged and wild parts of our island home?

This I-Term course will focus on wilderness skills, Hawaiian culture, and restoration work. Participants will live and work on farm, and embark on a 3 day backpacking trip in Volcanoes National Park.
